Rediscovering confidence with LimbPower Calvert Trust adventure weekends

Published on November 5, 2025

For anyone who has experienced limb loss or limb difference, community events like this one are much more than just a weekend getaway; they are a lifeline. These events help individuals find their confidence, foster friendships, and encourage participants to try new sports they might have previously considered beyond their reach — all in a supportive environment where everyone understands.

It's hard to describe the magic of being surrounded by people who genuinely get it, who grasp both the highs and the challenging moments that come with limb loss. At LimbPower Calvert Trust weekends, that shared understanding becomes the foundation for personal growth that continues long after the event.

Here are Kiera's reflections from the weekend — a snapshot of what made it so special for everyone who took part. As the last of the muddy boots are unpacked and the laughter-filled echoes of the weekend fade into fond memories, one thing is sure: LimbPower Calvert Trust Exmoor 2025 was nothing short of extraordinary.

Over the weekend, twenty amputees came together not just to take on challenges, but to rediscover connection, courage, and community. From the moment we arrived, there was an unmistakable buzz of anticipation, and by the time we left, we were no longer just participants but a family.

The schedule was packed with adventure: cycling, canoeing, abseiling, climbing, zipwires, archery, and even a splash of creativity with paint-and-sip evenings. Every activity pushed boundaries physically and mentally, but with cheers, laughter, and the occasional shriek of excitement, everyone rose to the occasion. For many, conquering a climbing wall or soaring down a zipwire was a personal milestone; for others, it was about rediscovering confidence and self-belief.

Evenings brought a different kind of energy, with infamous game nights filled with playful confusion (some still don't understand the rules of Mafia!) and endless laughter that carried late into the night. These were the moments that turned strangers into friends, and friends into something closer to family.

What made the weekend truly special wasn't just the activities; it was the people. The openness, encouragement, and humour shared by everyone created an atmosphere where we all felt we belonged — free to be ourselves, without judgment or limits. For some, the experience was life-changing: new friendships were formed, fears were faced, and personal decisions were affirmed.

As one participant beautifully put it, "I learnt so much about myself — it cemented the decision I made to chop off my leg. I experienced just a small fraction of what I can look forward to."

You can truly see how hard work pays off in the extraordinary attention to detail that Kiera and Natalie from LimbPower put into these weekends. Their dedication and energy showcase LimbPower's commitment to making these opportunities accessible, making the entire event possible. You could feel their care in every aspect, from the laughter to the logistics.

Kiera says, "To all our new friends, thank you for the memories, the laughter, and the sense of belonging. Let's keep the connection alive (yes, always on WhatsApp!) and do it all again soon. Until next time, keep moving, keep laughing, and keep believing".
