Rediscover the Thrill of Skiing: Join Ottobock's Inclusive Ski Clinics for Amputees
Are you ready to rediscover the excitement of snow sports? Movao highlights the recent Ottobock ski clinics in Chamrousse, France, and Lipno, Czech Republic, which were so much fun! But see yourself:
These ski clinics are designed to be fun and inclusive, creating the perfect setting for anyone looking to re-engage with snow sports after an amputation or wanting to trial the ProCarve prosthesis with expert technical support amidst stunning mountain backdrops. Participants in these events find that ski clinics, snow days, and other inclusive and adaptive winter courses offer incredible opportunities to learn to navigate the slopes safely and confidently. For amputees and those with limb differences, these experiences can reignite a passion for snow sports while fostering a sense of community.
Many of these supported and adapted programs include fantastic benefits, such as professional ski instructors and physiotherapists who are on hand to guide you—from learning the basics to refining your technique and correcting habits. This comprehensive support empowers you to ski with newfound confidence. These weekends are not just about skiing; they are about socializing with other amputees like you, learning together, and finding the confidence to enjoy snow sports and navigate ski resorts independently.
Over the past few years, Ottobock ski clinics and other adaptive ski weekends have welcomed many new adaptive skiers and snowboarders eager to embrace their adventurous spirit and make lasting memories on the slopes.
One participant, Françoise, was part of the Ski Clinic in Chamrousse in 2025. Having been an amputee since he was 15 years old, he has been using the ProCarve for the past four years. Françoise shares his top 5 tips for skiing as an amputee:
-
Get familiar with the knee; know how it works. Feel the weight of each leg and get comfortable using the ProCarve as a leg.
-
Test and feel the ProCarve when it comes to sliding and turning.
-
Before your trip, have a technician set your prosthesis to modify the angles and ensure your prosthesis, skis, and boots are aligned and ready to go.
-
Keep your head up and always look where you want to go; with a relaxed and comfortable posture, don't make yourself small.
-
Enjoy and have fun. Embrace each little turn and slide down the slope, and soon, you'll find yourself navigating more adventurous slopes on the mountain.
Marian, who recently shared his amputation story in the New Boundaries documentary, also participated in the latest Ottobock ski clinic; here are some highlights from his experience:
"I had a blast; it was amazing! Before this ski clinic, I had only skied using my Ottobock Genium X3, and trying the ProCarve was a game changer. It gave me much more freedom of movement on the slopes, making everything feel effortless."
As a confident skier and advocate for adaptive sports, Marian believes these weekends provide an essential opportunity for individuals to build the courage and confidence to enjoy snowsports after amputation. He shares his enthusiastic support for the experience:
"For anyone facing a similar journey after amputation, these weekends offer incredible support and a great opportunity to learn how to ski again. It's fantastic to see initiatives like this that help people achieve their dreams of skiing as an amputee. I can't recommend them highly enough!"
