Christmas Gift Guide for Amputees

by Rebecca Legon
Ho, ho, ho! The holiday season is almost here, and what better way to spread some cheer than with thoughtful gifts? Christmas is all about the joy of giving, and this year, at Movao, we've created a special Christmas Gift Guide tailored for our vibrant amputee community.
From innovative gadgets that cater to adaptive needs to stylish finds from top adaptive fashion brands, our gift guide is a treasure trove of carefully selected gifts for amputees. Whether you value inclusivity, style, or both, there's something here for everyone. So, grab a cup of mulled wine and make this holiday season truly magical!
1. North Pole Cane from Neo-Walk This walking stick will blow your mind—I'm absolutely in LOVE with the North Pole cane from Neo-Walk! While prosthetic advances mean a cane may not always be necessary with the right fitting prosthesis, using one has helped me walk straighter and further. Plus, it pairs beautifully with Christmas glam wear! For the price, visit here.

My go-to mobility walking aid is Nordic Walking Poles, perfect for undulating terrain. I use one pole for forest trails, and country walks for extra balance, and I take both poles when hiking in the mountains - for additional stability and support up and downhill. Leki is my favourite brand, but as long as the poles are good quality, they last a long time. I've had mine for over five years, and they've handled all extreme terrain and weather conditions! 3. Björn Eser (The Active Amputee) recommends using quick-fit snow chains and spikes (called Grödel) for your shoes to avoid falls and boost your confidence while walking in the snow this winter. Various models are available, from cute rubber straps with 6 or 8 small metal pins to more robust models resembling mini crampons with 14 to 20 metal teeth. What suits you depends on what you plan to do and what terrain and weather conditions you are navigating.
Björn is currently using the Ice Track from Stubai (price here), and another of his favourites is the Grivel Explorer (price here), which has sturdy metal plates for more demanding outdoor adventures.

You need a warm jacket for the cold winter, especially if you enjoy outside winter activities. Check out the Adaptive Collection from Tommy Hilfiger! The Adaptive Down Jacket in classic khaki is designed for easy dressing and features a luxe faux fur trim that adds style while keeping you warm with its insulating down filling. 5. Zalando Even and Odd Leggings
Say goodbye to frayed gym pants—Zalando has nailed it with these stylish leggings! I recently tried them out (check my Zalando collaboration post with Ottobock for my thoughts!), and they're amazing. Super comfortable and flattering, these Even and Odd Leggings are designed for right or left-leg amputees so you can confidently rock your activewear. For the price, visit here.
There's a social movement surrounding Vivobarefoot, and it's reaching the amputee community, too! I am a massive fan, and I am in LOVE with their Tracker Forest hiking boots for my outdoor adventures. VIVObarefoot footwear mimics walking barefoot, which enhances my prosthetic foot's connection to the ground and helps my C-Leg mechanical knee function more efficiently - making walking more effortless. They're lightweight and foot-shaped, eliminating toe pressure and making them super comfortable. For the price, visit here.

Stay warm and cosy with the Anysun Electric Blanket this holiday season! Decorated with festive patterns of Christmas reindeer, snowflakes, and trees, it's the ultimate cosy gift. This heated throw features an extended heating wire for consistent warmth and is made from luxuriously soft flannel and Sherpa. It keeps you snug and helps alleviate pain, enhances circulation, and reduces muscle soreness. For the price, visit here.

Get creative and personalize your prosthesis with UNYQ's customizable covers! These covers are a game changer, especially when wearing skinny jeans or wanting to express your unique style. Whether you opt for a cover that blends in or one that makes a bold statement, the choice is yours! Prices vary depending on the style and design, which are made just for you. Your skin is the largest and most sensitive organ, so it deserves extra love! Wearing a prosthesis can lead to issues like chafing, socket sores, sweat and odour. To keep your residual limb clean and in the best condition, use Derma Clean. It is pH-neutral, alkali, and phosphate-free, so it cleans gently with antibacterial power. Paired with Derma Prevent, it helps prevent chafing by creating a protective barrier that keeps sweat and odour at bay. If you're dealing with damaged skin, Derma Repair is your go-to! It soothes, protects, and is packed with panthenol and vitamin E to keep your skin balanced, elastic, and soft. For products and prices, visit here.
